I have been alternating between finishing the Swordmasters, working on finishing the Prince on Griffon, and beginning the Sea Guard. I have struggled to finish projects lately and have been starting new ones when I lose motivation. This has always been how I operate, but I may have bit off more than I could chew this time. Here are some pics and some of the techniques used.
First up are the Sea Guard.
This unit is in its very early stages, with only the white robes and faces mostly completed. I used a combination of white and Vallejo grey undercoat, airbrushing the grey onto the shield and robes. I was a bit nervous about how that would work as I am an airbrush newb, but it seems to have worked.
The sequence for the white can be found here.
I also used this technique on the crewmen for the Bolt Thrower. By using white as the HL rather than the base, it provides a bit of depth. You could replace Thunderhawk with any dark grey if that look is not working for you.
Next up is the High Elf Prince
The body of the armor is complete, as are the body feathers on the Griffon. I was able to get his face completely painted, despite the lack of room created by the helmet. I am most pleased with his eyes, which I don’t always attempt to paint. I usually leave black slits.
I washed his lower lip with watered down Crimson Wash and really love the way it looks. Adds real depth and warmth to the face.
Still tons to do, but I am making progress.
Last up are the Swordmasters
This unit has been a labor of love. They were the first WFB unit that I attempted and have taken quite a long time to wrap up. The blue plumes on the helmets are really time consuming and to be honest a bit of a bore to paint over and over. I have the characters left to do and about 30 or so gems, so that will be a good time.
Keep an eye on the blog for completed projects, hopefully sooner than later.
