As long as I have been in this hobby (approaching 20 years) I have always wanted to be in White Dwarf Magazine, the international magazine published by Games Workshop to promote the hobby and their products.
Part of what they do in the magazine is publish photos of miniatures submitted by hobbyists all over the world. I submitted some pictures of my repainted Thraka this summer and then really did not think anything about it. Much to my surprise, I was flipping through this week’s issue and there he was, the model that I had submitted months ago.
This has motivated me to continue improving on my style and to continue to try new techniques. Many of the things that worked so well for Thraka were experiments of sorts. I had never tried weathering powders on anything other than a tank and was eager to see how I could get that technique to work on a single model. The overall effect is appropriately rusted and weathered.
The propaganda poster on the base was something different as well. I googled Imperial Guard posters and there were many to choose from. I printed a whole sheet, hung several on some 40k terrain and then used this one to adorn his base. The effect is just what I was looking for.
Here is an additional picture of the model featured above.
