As if my sons and I needed another game to play, we got X-Wing Miniatures game for Christmas from my wife. The core boxed set includes an X-WIng and two Tie Fighters to duke it out with in space. The rules are quite easy to learn and the games are relatively fast paced.
Most of what I read on the internet suggested that two core sets would immediately improve the quality of the games, so we picked one up shortly after Christmas. With 2 X-Wings and 4 Tie Fighters, we have had some epic games attempting to outmaneuver each other.
The models do come painted, but I was intrigued by some pictures that I found online where people had repainted the ships to make the paint jobs cleaner, neater and a bit more like the ships in the movies. I picked up my trusty 00 brush and went to work.
Overall, I am pretty pleased with the result. I was a bit disappointed at the quality of the cast for the ship appearing on top in the picture. Much of the detail was pretty obscured, bent or missing all together. I did what I could to clean the up a bit and give it some character.
I added R2 units to both models, making sure to use blue to represent R2-D2 on Luke’s ship. I also added the yellow strip on the hull of Luke’s ship, although it is not exactly as it appears in the movies. I took some liberties with the weapons on the wings, they are cream colored in the movie, but I felt like the models needed a bit of a boost. I put some black on to create a bit of contrast. The engines are also not all metallic in the movies, but it what was what the models needed.
Look for more pictures soon, as I am going to work on the Ties and have gotten a great game mat to play on, using an image from the Hubble Telescope.
