We are always looking for new games to play as a family and for Christmas this year we got two new games to add to our collection.
The first game is Catan, which my son got from Santa. The game is quite simple to learn and plays in around an hour. It is a resource management game that involves accumulating resources and using them to build your empire. As you expand, so to do your competitors and the race is on to see who can build the largest empire. The board is shown below. As you build roads, houses and cities, you begin to
grow your empire around the hexagonal shapes above. A bit hard to explain without the game and pieces, but trust me it is really fun to play.
The second game we got is mostly for my sons and I as my wife does not typically join us when we play miniature games. The game is called Blood Bowl and is a game that allows you to play out a football game if it were to happen between fantasy races. In the box there is a human team and an orc team, ready to smash heads in a game if fantasy football. The box comes with everything you see below, including the “field” and all the players.
The game is an absolute blast to play, as the ball moves from player to player. There are injuries and cheating written into the rules, so at the end of the game you will have fewer players that you started with. The pieces come as solid plastic color (green for orcs, blue for humans) but are designed to be painted up. I have started on one of the human receivers as a test model for the rest of the squad.
He is only about 80% done, with some highlights and basing still needed. I am also going to add some decals (fancy modeling stickers) to the shoulder pads and come up with a clever name. I am really loving painting these, so I would imagine several posts in the future covering them.
After that, I get to paint the orc team, shown below all painted up. More to follow!
