Earlier this week, I was able to wrap up the tank that I have been working on for a few weeks. I am really happy with how it came out, particularly the rust and damage. I didn’t want it to look fresh out of the factory, but rather one that had been through quite a lot of action. The damage effect is actually quite easy to apply. Using an old piece of sponge, you dab on bits of paint and it goes down in a really irregular pattern. If you look closely at the following picture you will see what I mean.
Then, using a rust colored oil paint, you paint on really rough streaks to simulate where water and rain would cause the rust to run in streaks down the hull. After that has dried, you use a brush to blend the streaks so that they have different intensities and thicknesses.
I really like how the backpack came out as well. In most pictures of tanks from modern warfare, there is all kinds of stowage on them. Packs, rolls, camo nets. I didn’t have too many pieces to be able to use, but I did have the backpack above and the bedroll seen below.
Overall I a really pleased with the final look of the tank. I used some new techniques and got better at some old ones. Here is one more picture below. There are always more projects to work on and I am sure I will have some pictures of them for next time.
I think that I would like to try painting minurture things.
I love the rust too! It is so cool and very realistic
That is so much detail! How do you do that?
How small were those paint brushes!?!
