One of my many side projects are the Imperial Guard.
I have a few units completed for them and it was time to start adding some much needed firepower in the form of the formidable Lemun Russ battle tank. The pictures show the tank in its early phases, but I am making steady progress.
I used a book calledĀ Forge World Masterclass as a guide for the techniques to really beat up the paint work for a really worn and battle tested feel. I used oil paints mixed with odorless paint thinner to apply the water stains and to paint into the recesses. I had airbrushed on a gloss coat before doing that so the stains would blend easier. The gloss coat is also the ideal surface for decals to stick to with minimal hazing/ghosting. Still loads to do as you can see.
I included the tank commander from the kit because I thought it would add some really nice character to the model. I am really glad that I did because he is coming out really well.
I have been using a size 00 brush for the eyes and having great success doing so. I am not sure about the red view slits however. GW does them that way and was reluctant to replicate it. I am thinking of going to a blue, more glasslike view slit as I work on this model.
