I have been working on a variety of hobby projects lately, most boring of which is moving around 75 or my Skaven (rats) models onto round bases. The picture below is a group shot of the most recent patch. The large model in the center is about half way done. More pictures to come on that big guy.
Another project that had sat unfinished for quite some time was my jet for the Dark Angels, my oldest army. When I sprayed varnish on it the first time, it frosted quite badly. Frosting is when the varnish dries improperly and caused a “ghostly” grey coating to appear all over the model. Not ideal for a model that you have spent 15 hours lovingly painting. I was able to resolve it by spraying it with a gloss (shiny) coat and then hitting it again with another coat of matt varnish.
Here is the end result. The blacks are nice and strong and look as painted metal should.
The last bit I have been working on is a piece of terrain. The models themselves are a part of a larger game that is played on a 6X4 foot table top, covered in terrain that is painted in the same manner as the soldiers. Here is a shot of a game in action.
You can see how much the battlefield, and the terrain that you have for it, add to the gaming experience. Keep in mind that the game shown is the futuristic version of the game known as Warhammer 40,000 which takes place 38,000 years from now all over the galaxy.
The piece that I have worked on this week takes place in the fantasy/Hobbit/Lord of the Rings style universe. So imagine a battlefield that looks much less futuristic, with soldiers that are much less futuristic looking.
You can imagine this wrecked building as a gateway or portal into something very important. It has fallen on rough times and is just about to crumble.
Thats it for now. More shots of a big gaming weekend that is happening over Easter coming soon.
I loved how you did the jet. I love how you used the black with the white, It really stands out. The second terrain you did reminded me of the gate of morea ( I think I spelled that right ) from Lord of The Rings.
Oh, second thought on the terrain, looks by the pictures that it is a former dragon cave or something like that.
Mr.Mason I like your post a lot and I like your hobby a lot maybe when I am older I will try it.
